Three Specific Ways to Increase Your Self-Esteem

"You are an extremely valuable, worthwhile, significant person even though your present circumstances may have you feeling otherwise."

Have you ever driven a vehicle with the emergency brake inadvertently left on? I'm sure we've all experienced that...I know I have. That's what it's like when you go through your life with a less than optimal self-esteem.

Which of the statements below resonates the most with you right now with respect to your self-esteem (defined as how you see and value yourself as a person)?

- You feel like you're living under a cloud of negative circumstances (low)

- You feel somewhat worthy of respect and consideration (medium)

- You feel like, and expect, things to go well in the future (high)

Now, overall on a scale from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest), where do you rate your self-esteem?

Here are three specific ways to increase your self-esteem:

1. Collect and read positive affirmations. Be as emotional when reading your affirmations as if you were at your favorite sporting event cheering for your favorite team. Let me know if you would like some sample affirmations to start with.

2. Spend some dedicated time thinking about your past successes. Then when you experience your next "failure" use the phrase "next time I'll _____" to determine how you'll improve when a similar situation arises again.

3. Seek to help or praise someone else as soon as possible. Remember, you accomplish more by praising others than you do criticizing them. Helping and praising others will help to build your self-esteem and it may help build theirs!

So, now that you know how, turn on your smile and increase your self-esteem!
