Veterans Day
Here in the United States we're celebrating Veterans Day - a day to honor all of the men and women who are serving or who have ever served our nation as members of the military.
My own 4 years in the United States Air Force are what really makes me sensitive to this day, not to mention having the day off as a federal holiday :-)
Many lives have been lost in past or current wars. Many have suffered because of their injuries - both physical and mental. Yet young men and women continue to volunteer to serve.
I hope you'll give a special thought today to the men and women who make it safe for you and me to live our lives.
If you are one of the millions who serve - THANK YOU!

Tips for a Better Life...Part 5
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
Each night before you go to bed complete the following:
I am thankful for __________.
Today I accomplished _________.
Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
Enjoy the ride. You only have one ride through life so make the most of every moment, every single day.

Scripture and Snow Shoveling
It was another routine week in the office Monday through Friday. During my Scripture reading this week I finished the book of Leviticus and started the book of Numbers in the Old Testament. Thoughts this week included:
- People were amazed at what Jesus did and said “he has done everything well” (Mark 7)
- Wages can bring life if righteous, income can bring punishment if wicked (Proverbs 11:16)
- Even in the midst of Jesus explaining his betrayal, death sentence, torture, death and resurrection, James and John were focused on self and asking for favor (Mark 10)
- The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and He adds no trouble to it (Proverbs 10:22)
- Jesus was a human being who got hungry while he was here on planet Earth (Mark 11:12)
- Have faith, ask in prayer, believe, don’t have grudges, forgive, so that you may be forgiven (Mark 11B)
- Two greatest commands: 1) Love the Lord, 2) love your neighbor (Mark 12:29-31)
- Those who desire the important seats and places of honor, take advantage of widows and show off with lengthy prayers will be punished (Mark 12)
- It’s not the amount you give that matters, it’s the proportion and faith with which you give (Mark 12)
- Riches without understanding are like beasts that perish (Psalm 49:20)
- Be alert and on guard since you do not know when Christ will return (Mark 13)

Being Grateful
Well, the third week of 2008 has come and gone. At least I got to spend part of the week thawing out in the sunny San Diego area on a business trip. Tuesday evening dinner was at The Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens in Escondido CA. Wednesday brought many new people into my life that I will be working with throughout the coming year. These people traveled for our business meeting from California, Utah, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
My shortened time in Scripture this week included the following key thoughts:
Friday evening our family watched the second lesson in the video series “Strategies for Success: Blueprint for Achievement” by Zig Ziglar. This lesson taught about understanding your own self-talk, improving your self-talk, and being grateful.
Consider the following this week: What are you grateful for? Do you desire to gain wisdom and understanding?
My shortened time in Scripture this week included the following key thoughts:
- Be grateful, God is with me, I have food to eat (too much!), clothes to wear, and the ability to share with others (Genesis 28)
- The Lord disciplines those he loves, like a father disciplines the son he loves (Proverbs 3)
- Find wisdom, gain understanding, nothing you desire compares to these
- Anything divided against itself will not stand, if you are not for Jesus you are against him (Matthew 3)
- Do not withhold good from the deserving when it is within your power (Proverbs 3)
