"When all is said and done, success without happiness is the worst kind of failure."
Humanity is almost unanimous in their conclusion that one of the highest goals of life is to be happy.
Your happiness depends more on what you are as a person than any external factor(s). Be careful when you are tempted to leave a place, job, situation, loved one, or anything you believe is causing you unhappiness.
We've spent a lot of time studying the topic of success on this blog. Ultimately, success does not create happiness, but it is a part of happiness.
Here are some pieces of a happy life:
- a sense of being. To be able to wake up, enjoy the beauty of the world, satisfy your appetite, and to interact with others.
- a sense of belonging. To work with others to attain something, to be a part of a family and community.
- a sense of meaning. To build something, to have a role, to have connections and comradery.
- a sense of growing. Learning, compassion, forgiveness and love. Always be looking for ways to be growing in the different areas of life.
- a sense of giving. Whether it is money, time, talent, or ourselves, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Be a giver instead of a taker, and notice how quickly more and more blessings are added to your life.
Here's a worthy saying for your consideration: life is not about you, it’s about you helping others.
It's never too late to live happily ever after. Start today.

How to Create a More Successful Family Environment
"We inevitably doom our children to frustration and failure when we try to set their goals for them."
There is probably no harder task in the world than to raise a child well from birth to adulthood. Some important principles to teach along the way include:
- value people, especially family members, for who they are.
- give encouragement to others; it helps them develop the courage needed to persist.
- don't be afraid to make mistakes. Does anyone learn anything without making mistakes? Not really, making mistakes is just part of the learning process.
Each of us need to develop a core set of principles and measure each of our decisions against those principles.
The only real way to teach values is to live them. Our children need to learn what we have learned and especially what has helped us along the way.
Our children should NOT do things just because we say NOT to do them, they should decide for themselves based on their values.
Life is not about you, it's about you helping others. Now go and help others learn these important principles, especially those in your own family.

How to Claim Excellence
"You, scanning these words, are living proof that one need not stop learning, or growing, after some predetermined youthful age."
What does excellence mean to you?
Words like exceptionally good, continuous improvement, and possessing high qualities come to my mind.
On a personal level excellence is made up of individual fulfillment, high self-worth, and the belief that each individual has the opportunity and responsibility to be the best they can be.
How about the word responsibility?
Do you believe the government is responsible to solve your problems? Or do you take personal responsibility and solve them yourself?
Thomas Jefferson believed that the role of government is to protect and serve the people.
Who is best suited to ponder and solve one's problems? I believe a free, moral, thinking, and responsible person is.
We are always in need of more free, moral, thinking, and responsible individuals to lead the way and encourage others.
What good is our freedom without moral commitment?
We need to ensure a sense of individuality co-exists with a sense of shared purpose.
You and I must look for ways to encourage the development of individual freedom and personal responsibility. This is the opposite of depending upon government to provide solutions.
Strive to improve the lives of others by first claiming excellence and responsibility in your own life.
